Who says you need a campfire to make s’mores? I am breakin’ all the rules and making these summertime treats in the kitchen, calling them Kitchen S’Mores.
I had the idea to come up with a kitchen made s’more recipe. But then, as often happens, one recipe turned into two turned into FIVE. And all of these s’mores (or smores) recipes are easy to make, all can be done stove-top or in the oven, and all are delish!

What are s’mores anyway?
S’mores are one of those classic American summertime treats. Traditionally made with marshmallows toasted over a campfire, then sandwiched between two plain graham crackers with chocolate.
And the name s’more is an abbreviation of some more… as in “gimme some more of those delicious treats!”
Since I don’t readily have access to a campfire I toast the marshmallows over the flame on my gas range stove. If you don’t have a gas range, you can broil them for a minute or so until they are toasted.

As you can see the variations are endless! Try cinnamon grahams, try salted caramel filling, mix up the fruit in the middle (think strawberries!), and try different types of chocolate such as mint or toffee.
And if you are vegan and/or gluten-free you can find those options as well. Dandies are vegan marshmallows. And S’moreables are vegan and GF graham crackers.

- 4 whole graham crackers broken in half to make two squares (original, cinnamon or chocolate)
- 2 wooden skewers
- 8 large marshmallows
- 8 squares dark chocolate one bar, broken into squares
Ingredients
|
|
- prepare a plate or serving tray with graham cracker halves (you should have 8 whole crackers to make 4 s’more “sandwiches”)
- place marshmallows on wooden skewers
- for gas range method: “toast” marshmallow skewers over a medium-high or high flame while turning to toast all sides, about 1-2 minutes total; if they catch fire just blow out quickly (this helps them get toasty!)
- for broiler method: heat broiler to high and line a sheet pan with parchment paper, broil marshmallow skewers until toasty (keep oven door cracked to make sure they don’t burn); should take 1-2 minutes
- top four of the graham cracker halves with two chocolate squares and/or nut butter if using; you can also double the chocolate squares and add to both halves for extra chocolatey s'mores
- place hot marshmallows on chocolate covered graham crackers (it will melt slightly), then top with plain graham cracker to make the “sandwich”
