Put it on Everything Seasoning

They say variety is the spice of life and I say my Put it on Everything Seasoning is the spice blend you need in your life! Made with a combo of seeds and dried onion and garlic, this seasoning blend goes good with just about everything. 

If you have ever had and loved an everything bagel, then you can understand my love for the “everything” seasoning. I was buying my own, but then I wondered if I could make it from scratch to be just as good (or better) than the store bought ones.

Well, I am glad this happy experiment worked out, because I can honestly say I will never buy the pre-fab mix again. In many cases homemade is better, and in some cases homemade is best.

 

Maldon sea salt

One reason I wanted to make my own everything seasoning blend at home is because I wanted it to be 100% organic. So I rounded up the key ingredients and got to work. I mean sampling. I mean tasting. And by tasting I mean I put it on everything savory I could think of ~ breakfast toasts, various salads, and grain dishes. The result? Yum, yummy and yummier!

The typical ingredients in this blend include some ratio of white sesame seeds, sometimes black sesame seeds, poppy seeds, dried onion flakes, dried garlic flakes and sea salt flakes. i.e. a coarse sea salt such as Maldon.

 

Black & white sesame seeds and poppy seeds are key to “everything”!

For both the dried onion and garlic you want the flakes (not ground). For the onion I like the Frontier Coop onion flakes. And for the garlic I also like the Frontier Coop garlic flakes.

No baking or toasting necessary, unless you just prefer to toast the sesame seeds first. Otherwise, you just mix, shake, sprinkle and enjoy… On everything.

Dried onion and garlic flakes

Here are some of the ways you can enjoy my Put it on Everything Seasoning:

  • on breakfast toast with avocado and/or hard-boiled eggs
  • on bread with vegan chive almond spread
  • on scrambled eggs
  • in egg salad, tuna salad, or potato salad
  • in hummus and other dips and spreads
  • in a compound butter (plant-based or otherwise) for savory baking and cooking
  • in salad dressings
  • on salads, green or grain
  • on fish and meat (just add the last few minutes so it doesn’t burn)
  • on homemade popcorn
  • on tacos and fajitas
  • as an olive oil dip for crusty bread
  • atop roasted or sautéed potatoes and veggies
  • and just about anywhere else you can think of!

Sharing my secret not-so-secret anymore recipe for my Put it on Everything Seasoning. Just make a big batch of it and store in an airtight spice jar to have ready for sprinkle action whenever and wherever the mood strikes you.
