Warning: super delicious addictive snack food ahead! These Spiced Candied Mixed Nuts are a breeze to make and are so good you’ll find it hard to stop eating them.
A little sweet, a little spicy, and a little smoky, it’s the perfect balance of flavors for snacking, adding to salads, and more!
If you’re feeling a little nuts around the holidays, it’s time to pause the shopping, wrapping and stressing and make a batch of these Spiced Candied Mixed Nuts.
They will have your kitchen smelling good as they bake, and you can even make an extra batch to give away as holiday gifts.
For this recipe I like to use a combo of nuts, and my favorite are cashews, pecans and walnuts. But any nuts (and seeds) work here! Just be sure to start with raw nuts.
Use any combo of nuts you like for this recipe
Nuts you can use in this recipe:
- almonds (whole)
- brazil nuts
- cashews
- hazelnuts
- pecans
- pistachios
- walnuts
Feel free to toss some seeds into the mix as well. Pumpkin seeds would work great here!
The recipe is a breeze. The hardest part is trying to decide which combo of nuts to use. Once you do, it takes five minutes to prep, just one bowl to mix, and only 15 minutes in the oven.
You can use just one type of nut if preferred
For the flavors in this recipe I like to use a little sweet, a little smoky/spicy, and a little salty. So I went with pure maple syrup for the sweetener, smoked paprika for a little heat and smokiness, and flaky Maldon sea salt flakes for saltiness. I also use minced fresh rosemary, which goes especially well with nuts.
You can skip the rosemary if you aren’t a fan, but I highly recommend using it, as it just adds something extra delish!
Sweet & salty make these nuts super addictive!
To get started, heat your oven to 350° and line a large sheet pan or two with parchment baking paper. In a large bowl you’ll add your avocado or olive oil, maple, and seasonings. Then toss in the raw nuts and mix well.
Spread the nuts out onto the prepared pan(s) and bake about 15 minutes, stirring halfway through.
Important tip: once you remove the nuts from the oven, let them cool on the baking pans so that they crisp up nicely. Then store them in a jar at room temp once completely cooled.
These nuts make perfect holiday gifts
This recipe yields three cups, but you can double the recipe to make extra for gifts or for party snacks.
