If you’re a fan of guacamole then you’ll love this recipe for Whipped Avocado with Lime, Herbs & Sea Salt. It’s the perfect dip, spread or grain bowl topper.
And it’s the delicious glue that holds these Picnic Sandwiches with Whipped Avocado together.
Made with ripe avocado, sesame tahini, lime (or lemon), garlic and fresh cilantro, it tastes like Mexican meets Mediterranean meets guacamole.
What’s tahini, you ask?
Tahini is sesame seed paste, or “butter”, kind of like the consistency of peanut butter. But it’s not sold sweetened, like peanut butter often is.
It’s an integral part of Mediterranean style dishes, such as hummus and baba ganoush. It can be used in savory or even in sweet recipes, such as halva.
Tahini is sold either raw or roasted. I like the these brands:
- Seed and Mill (available at Chelsea Market in NYC or online)
- Once Again (available in most health-focused stores or online)
Now, on to the recipe!
Toss everything in a food processor and you’re fini in 5!
This recipe is a breeze to make ~ just add everything to a food processor, whiz a time or two and you have the fluffiest of fluffy dip, spread, or whatever you use it for.
For this and many other recipes I use this mini Cuisinart food processor.
If you are allergic to sesame, omit the tahini. No sub needed, as there really isn’t an equivalent that would go well, except maybe a tablespoon of avocado oil.
If you don’t love cilantro, sub parsley or basil. And of course, either lime or lemon work here.
Whether you use this avocado hummus for a dip, spread, or sandwich topper, it goes great with just about anything.
